School Introduction

We offer cooking and nutrition classes to help people take better care of their health. We look at the energetic qualities of foods and their effects on our body, moods and emotions, mind and spirit.

Health is achieved by balancing qualities like yin and yang, hot and cold and the five elements, using the theories of macrobiotics, Chinese medicine and a western understanding of nutrition and emotional healing. We teach some simple methods of assessing your own health and give a clear idea of what individual students can do to improve their health.

All classes teach vegetarian cooking without the use of diary, sugar or processed foods, using organic ingredients wherever possible, with occasional optional cooking of fish. We use wholefoods as they contain the most nutrition and flavour. In most classes the students cook lunch, which is then eaten together.

The central inspiration in our work is 'Macrobiotics' which originally came from Greek, meaning 'big' (macro) 'life' (bios) the path to a long and healthy life in the most broad and deepest understanding of the laws of nature. Through a macrobiotic way of living, we gain clarity in achieving our life's aims. Macrobiotics is not a diet or a cure or a therapy, it is not a treatment or a religion. We can only describe macrobiotics as a way to approach life.

Our courses include learning about the energetics of food and integrate this understanding and knowledge into hands-on cooking in partnership with heart-centered emotional and spiritual work.

Our regular classes includes the Fundamentals of Healthy Eating which is nice mix of theory and cooking classes usually held over a weekend and the Looking After Your Health which is our in-depth 5 day Workshop.

We also offer a three year professional Macrobiotic Dietary & Life Counselling course which is held over 7 long weekends per year. Providing a thorough training to become a Macrobiotic Cook and Counsellor.

Further information is available on our website.
