We offer exciting and innovative professional training courses in macrobiotic healing arts. In two years you can become a Macrobiotic Cook & Health Advisor and with an additional third year a Macrobiotic Specialist Cook & Healing Guide and a Macrobiotic & Life Counsellor.
Our courses are run by Oliver Cowmeadow and Marijke De Coninck Co-Founders and Directors of the School. The courses are taught as 7 or 8 modules a year of 3 to 6 days in length (see 'a typical module'). Our courses are 'true' training courses, with guided learning of cooking, diagnostic and interviewing skills, graded homework tasks, and assessments at the end of each year and put a strong emphasis on students’ own physical, emotional and spiritual development. They combine the skills of giving an Oriental type of health consultation with modern emotional counselling, creating truly holistic practitioners. All the teaching includes business and promotion skills, and support students in setting up their own successful businesses

First Year intakes commence: 29th April 2009 or December 2009
Fees: £2750 including all teaching and meals, but not including accommodation. Payable as £650 deposit and the remaining fees either paid in one go or ten monthly instalments of £214.
We have a purpose built student kitchen, in a converted barn, which is next door to the student common room. Our teaching studio provides space for teaching and exercise and overlooks the devonshire countryside.
Entrance to the course is by interview. We want to ensure that taking part in the course is the right thing for you at this time, that you will be able to fully participate in the whole course and there are no foreseeable problems with your completing the first year course successfully.
PREREQUISITES: You will have already made a start studying macrobiotics and have been applying its philosophy and healing to developing yourself and your health, including cooking and eating using macrobiotic principles. The minimum level of previous studies is that of the 'Looking After Your Health' course at the Holistic Cooking School which includes basic yin yang philosophy applied to diet, health and illness. Oriental diagnosis of the main organs and systems of the body, developing a clear understanding of your own main physical or emotional imbalances and how to heal them, and ten cooking classes.
Oliver Cowmeadow, Co-Founder and Director.
Oliver began studying macrobiotics and shiatsu at the Kushi Institute in London in 1980 and then studied extensively in Europe and America. In 1984 he moved to the south west of England where has been teaching and practising ever since. In 1985 he established the Devon School of Shiatsu which has been running a three year training since 1990 and has trained many shiatsu practitioners. Due to this own emotional struggles he began rebirthing, counselling and past life healing in the early 1990's and later did trainings in these therapies. In 2003 he founded the Holistic Cooking School and subsequently the International Macrobiotic School which offers introductory and in-depth courses in healing with food, cooking and emotional work.
Marijke De Coninck Co-Founder and Director
Marijke came to macrobiotics in 1979 due to illness and together with akido yoga recovered her health. She went on to study psychotherapy and emotional healing and ran her own Centre, De Meridiaan in Belgium for many years. She is a well known teacher and sought after macrobiotic life counsellor throughout Belgium. She also ran a two year course in macrobiotic healing, including study of diet, cooking, spirituality and emotional work, supporting people through many life changes. She is the mother of four grown children and three grandchildren.
