School Introduction

SA Chefs Academy is owned and run by chefs Garth Strobel and Paul Hartmann. It is the most practically intensive chefs course in the country, where the students are cooking every single day.

The course covers Pastry and Hot Kitchen.

SA Academy students have won the Sunday Times Senior Chef 2009, Sunday Times Junior Chef 2009, as well as the international San Pellegrino Young Chef of the Year, 2009, and a first for any South African.

Background Data

Schedule & Fees

Full Time Diploma course starts middle of January and ends in November. The program follows the same terms schools. The course is R70,000 ex vat and including uniforms, quality ingredients, equipment and City & Guilds Exam fees.

Block Release program for currently employed chefs: Come to us one day per week over six months and gain a City and Guilds international qualification in Pasry or Food Preparation. Course fee is R14,000 ex vat and is mostly theory.

We facilitate employment at the end of the course.

Facilities

Pastry kitchen with 16 work stations, Hot kitchen with 16 work stations, Theory lab, Computer lab, Student room.

Admission Requirements

Matric or suitable.

Faculty

Owners and chefs, Garth Stroebel and Paul Hartmann have been at the helm of the ***** Mount Nelson Hotel (Awarded a Top Ten Resturant in the World by US Hotel magazine during their tenure), been crowned World Champions in the Hot Kitchen, Frankfurt 1992, and continually involved with South Africa's participation in international competitions.
